FAQs about the application process

Why do we have to submit a paper application as well as a digital application? A paper application (in addition to your digital application) is helpful to us. For example it shows us the exact colours you intend (which really doesn’t always happen with digital images).   The panel shortlist in person and we have found it very illuminating to have hard copy in front of us when we do that.  You will have noticed that, unlike most awards, we charge no fee to enter for the Chadwell Award: your only expense is printing out and sending the application. For clarity – you do need to submit both a paper and digital application to be considered for the award.

Do I need to use a courier service to deliver my application? No. Royal Mail or hand delivery work well. Delivery address is on the application form.

How many applications do you get? We got 64 applications in 2023. Remember we only allow applications from students in their final year on postgrad fine art courses at RA, RCA and The Slade.

Who is on the judging panel? The judging panel changes from year to year, the names are on the application form notes.  The panel normally consists of one or more artists, a gallerist and a curator as well as the founders.
